Warm Up style board challenge

I was recently sent a fun warm up style board challenge, by Douglas Elliman and their Florida office, to create a style board with how I like to make my home feel warm in the winter months.

I just love this time of year here in Wisconsin. Many people can’t stand the cold and the snow that we get, but there is just something that makes my heart feel so cozy and warm this time of year.

I love introducing warm tones, textures and colors into my home in the winter months.  In the winter around my home, you will find a lot of plaids, faux furs, tribal designs, warm wood tones and warm bright whites, golds and silvers.

I believe that warm wool blankets , and soft faux fur throws and pillows add amazing detail and texture to a space, and in their own way add such a beautiful warmth to a home in the winter months. Also in Wisconsin, they are nice to have around on those really cold evenings when you snuggle by the fire with your hot cocoa.

Using the app ‘Morpholio’ I created a fun warm winter style board for a living room.  I have included the warm white, plaid, and gold tones that I love using during the colder months of the year. Adding a lot of white to a space this time of year, can really add a beautiful fresh and sunny feel.  It can be as simple as buying new pieces, rotating pieces from another space in your home, or throwing a new coat of white paint on an old dresser to freshen it up for the season.  One thing I really like to do, instead of buying new couch pillows for each season, is to buy the basic square shaped couch pillow, and switch out the covers on them seasonally, it saves money, and takes up very minimal storage space when they are not in use.

Another app that I have had a lot of fun with lately for design, is ‘Design Home’.  Design Home is an app which gives you daily and weekly design challenges, for different homes and rooms in those homes. Then your room designs are rated on a 1-5 star scale from other designers, and depending on your score, you can win more design pieces for your style boards.  Below are two of the recent spaces I have designed for the Winter season, using the furniture and decor that was available to me through the app.

In the first design, I added some white faux flowers on the dining room table.  I love using flowers all year round in my home.  In the winter months, I just take out the bright colors and place some faux white, silver or gold flowers in a simplistic vase.

In the second design , I added in a lot of white furniture, a tribal white rug with black accents, and simplistic stone side tables, which keep the space feeling bright and airy even on dark winter evenings.

Winter doesn’t have to always be dark and drab!  Fill your home with decor items, textures and tones that make you feel warm even when the sun goes down early, and the days are short.  Your home is, after all, your home.  I am just here to inspire, and these are examples of things that I love to do in my home!  How do you fill your home with warmth in the Winter months?

Here in Wisconsin last night, we received about 5 inches of fresh, fluffy snow, and the temperatures are well below zero with the windchill.  As I write this I am tucked under my favorite plaid down blanket, sipping my coffee and watching the wind blow the snow off of the trees out my window, and completely happy and content.  You may not enjoy every aspect of winter, but if you want to enjoy it just a little bit more, try some of my tips above to bring warmth and comfort to your home and soul as the days get colder.

The Shed; Booth update, early December.

I want to first say a big thank you to everyone who has supported this new journey the past 3 weeks!  Our first 3 weeks of having a little 8×9 booth space at The Shed in Altoona, Wi has been extremely successful, because of you all !  Because of your support, encouragement, and belief in Endless Acres Farmtiques and what it is that I do!  I am so grateful to have such a supportive community around me.

I have been restocking my booth at The Shed once per week.  I typically restock on Friday afternoons closer to closing.  I will do my best to do weekly blog posts showcasing my booth in its current state and focusing on the newest additions, so you can easily see some of what I currently have for sale, before you venture there to view and or purchase items!

Last week Friday I restocked and rearranged my booth with my daughter.  We have highly enjoyed this new little venture, and it has become a fun family affair.

The lighting in my booth is not the greatest, so I hope to remember to tote along my regular slr camera and flash, for better photographs.

In my booth, I am currently trying to minimize on the current items I have for sale in my sheds, like furniture, projects, home decor, vintage goods, etc.  Once my current inventory gets down to where I’d like it to be, my booth will have more of a ‘theme’ and a general overall feel of adventure and wanderlust mixed with vintage flair.

There will also be bigger and better changes coming to my booth over the next few months, including a large custom Endless Acres Farmtiques sign, custom shelving I am currently designing, and more!  Stay tuned!

Below are photos I took on Friday December 2nd after restocking my booth with new vintage goods and finds!  You can click on an image to enlarge it.

You can shop my unique goods, 7 days a week at The Shed at 1519 Mayer Road in Altoona, Wisconsin.  They are open until 5:00 pm every day!

I am booth # 56 , first booth on the left side of the right isle in the new addition! (whew, did that make sense?) If you can’t find my booth, ask Ed or someone at the front where to find me!  When you visit, be sure to say hi to Jackson the dog as well.  Nicest dog you will ever meet!

As always, you can also follow along with my DIY and treasure hunts, over on Facebook as well!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You’re on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go.

-And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
(98 and 3 / 4 percent guaranteed.)

KID, YOU’LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!

So…
be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray
or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O’Shea,
you’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So…get on your way!”

Today I was rummaging around the machine shed, looking for some barn wood which I will be using to create new shelves for a desk I am working on.  As usual, I got distracted when I found a smaller piece of barn wood that I thought would be perfect to hand letter on and turn into a sign!   Then I wandered over into the barn, for no reason specific and found an old piece of picket fence, and thought I could add it to the barn wood sign somehow.    I took the pieces inside and grabbed my paintbrush and some paint colors..still with no plan in mind, and attached the fence piece, and started painting…and this was my result! :

This sign is currently for sale and available for local pick up (I am near Eau Claire, Wisconsin ) or it can also be shipped.    You may purchase the sign over on Etsy, here.   If you like the sign but want it in different colors, or a different saying, feel fre to email me any requests, I am always up for custom orders and love getting them!  Email: endlessacres@live.com

Sign stats:   This is a hand painted sign on reclaimed 1880 barn wood from Wisconsin.
The back of the sign consists of the original barn paint color in ‘sweet corn yellow’ .
I hand painted on the under side of the barn board so the original side would not be destroyed.

The barn wood has been sanded down, brushed over lightly with acrylic blue-green paint, and hand lettered in mustard yellow paint.
An old piece of picket fence has been attached to the sign with a vintage hook to hang a hat, keys, sunglasses, or small jacket!
Entire sign has been coated for protection with a clear satin polyurethane.

Sign measures approx. 12″ wide x 29″ tall.

Sign includes hanging wire on the back & has been signed and dated by the artist.

Imagine how sweet this original sign would look in a childs room near the door or in your porch or entry way!

Thanks for reading everyone!
